Reconstruction SR 500 (US 441) widening from Perkins St to Griffin Road, Leesburg, Florida Protean Design Group recently completed the design of the widening of SR 500 in Leesburg, Florida. When construction is complete in 2011, the corridor will be widened from the existing four lane roadway to a six lane roadway with bike lanes and landscaped medians. The project also includes the realignment of SR 25 (US 27) in order to create a ‘T’ intersection with SR 500. The project design phase also included pond design, storm sewer design, lighting and signalization design. An intricate traffic control plan was also developed so as to minimize impact in the area. The complexity of the project necessitated extensive coordination with local residents, business, government and utility owners.
